DMs' Chambers

  • Player Numbers
  • Posting Expectations
  • Posting OOC(out of character)
  • Number of Players
For the purpose of keeping the game concise, we will allow eight players to participate at a time, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Why? For our own sanity, thats why! :) Under certain conditions, we may allow more than eight players -- time will tell.

    Posting Suggestions
Posting is what makes or breaks a game. You stop posting and the game ends. To maintain the flow of the game, we would like to see players posting at least three times a week. You may post more if you wish. Remember though, that it is important to allow other players a chance to respond before barrelling the story line ahead.

If nothing much is going on, feel free to post something that will portray a trait of your character that may not be easy to get across any other way. Dream sequences, thoughts about the situation at hand, reflections of the past or visions of the future - all these are good ideas to use if you are stumped at what to post. Be Creative!

    There are times that real life crises will intervene and you may get a bit behind on posts. Do not fear! Your DMs are merciful indeed and will let a week lapse before we start worrying about you. If it DOES start to become a habit though, you will leave us no choice but to become creative in pondering your character's demise. {Insert evil music and maniacal laughter here}

If you are going to be busy or are going on vacation, please email the group list with that information. We will take over your character until you return, and you will escape our wrath.

One other thing to remember. When you are posting your character's actions PLEASE refrain from posting the other character's reactions. Nothing is more frustrating to a player as to read that his/her character is shocked /afraid /angry, when it is not the way he or she would have portrayed it.

Also, if it appears that your character may be involved in a lengthy conversation with another, please email between yourselves til the conversation is over, then compile it and post it in one email to the group list. That way we are not bombarded with 20 one-sentenced emails.

    OOC Posting
OOC (out of character) posting can be a wonderful way to get to know a person behind the character he/she portrays and we have no problems with this. To help maintain the structure of the game, DragonSong has two group lists. The
Admin group is to be used for OOC comments, such as clarification of which spell is cast, or what you perceive your character's actions to be. Also, if you have something to tell the group as a whole, such as vacation coming up or something personal, this is the group to use.

The DragonSong group is used for the in character story line.

    Player Conduct
It is our sincere hope that you as players will take the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the game. Coming as friends to participate in this game can only make the experience more enjoyable.

Because we are all human, there may be times that things get misunderstood. If you find yourself feeling upset about something a player is supposed to have said/done, we encourage you to contact that person directly to help clarify the situation. Please do not talk about it to the other players, which often creates an 'us against them' mentality. If a suitable compromise cannot be reached, then come to us and we will arrange a meeting with those involved to figure things out.

If you are upset about something the DMs have said or done, talk to us about it. We promise NOT to kill your character off if you do. hehehe

    Character Conduct
Because your characters all have vastly different backgrounds and abilities, it will be impossible for characters to always get along. Such differences will give ample room for excellent roleplaying between individuals.

HOWEVER. Intentionally causing party disharmony because a player 'just felt like it' will not be tolerated. Fighting in real life is unpleasant enough, it is not what most people want to find in their recreational life if it can be helped.

Does this mean characters must always get along? NO. We do not expect this to happen and things might be a bit dull if they did. However, starting a fight just to 'start a fight' is a big no-no to your DMs. It has torn apart many fine Pbems. Doing so is a good way to find your character very nastily dead.

One other thing... Many pbems follow a rather trashy tale when it comes to sex. DragonSong is of the old school. Romance is wonderful and encouraged, as long as it does not become the main focus of your character's existence. If you engage in a 'sexual situation' with a character that is intended to get quite graphic, DO NOT POST IT TO THE GROUP LIST. Keep it PRIVATE.

If cybersexual content is what you are looking for in a pbem, let us know. There are several that might interest you, although it may be advisable to visit a chat room instead. You will be disappointed in DragonSong if that is all you seek.

When a player has to leave the game
There are situations that arise that may require a player to pull out of the game. If it gets to a point that you can no longer participate, please let us know and we will make sure your character has a graceful exit.

    ABOVE ALL ELSE

Have Fun. The purpose in making this game was not to make some money, and not to see how many hits we could get to this site. It was made in the hopes of creating an environment in which you all can relax and find enjoyment, whilst making some friendships that may last a good long time...

We love to write, and we love to read a good story. It is our hope that you all will be able to show us your ability to express yourself in the written word through this medium. This game is not intended to be just hack and slash, although there will be a good amount of combat. It is more intended to 'tell a story'. Enjoy it as it unfolds under the very talented fingers of our writers.
